What does it mean to be a teacher in today's world and how can we make a difference for every boy and girl in our classroom? For each of us, it means "to learn and grow, to reach for the stars...to self actuate; become who we truly are. Educate, derives from the latin word Educare, which means literally to draw out one's inherent knowledge. We all can learn, we are all educators...."
Why is using technology an important consideration in education?
1. We are all dedicated to preparing today's children to become lifelong learners and leaders of tomorrow. Making sure that our students have a strong set of core academic skills have always been key to a meaningful education. We know, for instance, that leading education philosopher, John Dewey, argued for an education system that reaches more than just the basics. More recently, the US Department Education Commission has challenged schools to teach not only basic skills but also the ability to think creatively as well as acquire and analyze information.
2. A learning imperative -- studies by national and international research organizations, including the National Research Council, OECD, and the International Society for Technology in Education, have shown that complex thinking and analytical skills are an integral part of learning at every stage of development.
3. The integration of advanced thinking and analytical skills into teaching and learning makes it easier for students to acquire even the most basic skills and core knowedge. This means that elements of ‘create,’ ‘evaluate,’ ‘analyze’, 'collaborate' and 'perform' are core to good teaching and learning.
